Why Men Don’t Notice Women’s New Haircuts
How often has a woman gone out, spent $300 on new haircut, highlights too, only to return home waiting anxiously for her husband’s reaction – but he doesn’t even notice?
It might not be because he’s unkind, or uncaring, according to a new study conducted by the New Scientist.
He may, and now get this, be suffering from “hair blindness”.
There’s a similar condition called prosopagnosiacs – a condition where people can’t recognize faces – and a neuroscientist by the name of Brad Ducaine has been studying the relationship between hair and facial features such as the nose, chin etc.
Turns out, people who can’t recognize faces use hairstyle to make up for their lack of recognition ability. However, humans don’t consider hair part of the facial structure, and so tend to ignore it when evaluating someone they recognize.
So, when a woman’s husband or boyfriend first greets them, if they’re “normal”, they are subconsciously focusing only on the face. And hence, they don’t really “see” the new hairstyle.
Prosopagnosiacs are people who can’t recognize faces. A person who is expert at recognizing a face is an Atlanta Private Investigator.
I found this article after doing a google search because I was sitting for hours burning up because my husband didn’t notice my new haircut (even though I had about 5 inches cut off). Interesting, I thought it was because maybe he had his mind on something else or really wouldn’t even notice if I was someone else completely!
This sounds like a crappy excuse for inattentive husbands.
