A career as private investigator will have you working with many different individuals. Most people find the work exciting indeed. Lawyers, companies and different types of individuals will be seeking your services. That is the extent of the versatility of private investigation.

You can embark on the exciting world of being a private investigator. All you need to do is find a good private investigation school in your area. Before you know it, you will be among those who are being sought for so that a case or a crime can be solved.

Training to be a private investigator.

Before enrolling in a private investigation school or program, you first have to know what sort of a private investigator you will become. You need to have a specialized field that you can focus on. The list of specialization is endless so you have to be certain what you will choose.

You can still practice your present career while studying to be a private investigator. But it is advised that you do the training full time so that they will not conflict with your other schedule.

If you cannot leave your work or travel to and from the training school, an online course is your best option. You can enroll in the varying courses that are offered by some private investigation schools online and train from home.

All you have to do is find an online school that you will cater to what you want. Be sure that you check out if that certain school is accredited by authentic organizations. If you do an intensive search, you can find one that will suit your needs as well as your budget.

How expensive a private investigation school is does not really matter. What matters is how well they can teach you to become an effective private investigator and the connections that they have.

Enrolling in a private investigation school can provide many advantages. Not only will it teach you how to go about your work as a private investigator, you will also pick up many things that will benefit your chosen career.

Your research and investigation skills are developed. You are also taught about tools and devices that will form a vital part of your investigation. Analytical thinking is also enhanced by activities and possible situations that you are given during the training.

Private investigation schools do not only teach you to become good private investigators. They will also teach you how to manage your own private investigation business in case you want to set up one in the future.

On being a private investigator.

There are two options given to you once you finish your private investigation course.

One is to become part of a private investigation agency. You will need a private investigation license and a good resume in order to get a sound position. If you find yourself affiliated with a big agency, then you can expect advancement in career and high salary in as you progressed.

The other option is being self-employed. Private investigators that do this are those that have other jobs on the side. They can do private investigation on a part-time basis and only when they are not busy with other things.

In private investigation, you have a lot of choices. You can make the most of these opportunities by enrolling in a private investigation school and becoming one a part of the exciting world of private investigation.

Think of how many emails get transmitted daily. The multiply that by the number of employees in a company, then multiply that by the myriad of different types of file formats, applications, hardware configurations and then you start to get an idea of the leviathan that is ediscovery.

Often, the old saying “trying to find a needle in a haystack” becomes a harsh reality for a computer forensics examiner. This used to cost litigants vast sums of money because it often required teams of people sifting through massive amounts of paperwork. Technology helps, but it can only go so far to determine the importance of a particular piece of data. And it’s not just email messages, every single document – regardless of its origin is subject to discovery and thus subject to being examined and searched. This also holds true for voicemail messages. When litigation begins everything is fair game.

An interesting story out of Hollywood has emerged where a private investigator Becky Altringer has accused Evi Quaid of asking her to harass certain individuals. This is merely an accusation, nothing has been decided in court.

Sometimes, private investigators can get crossways with their clients. This most often happens when a client lies to the private investigator about some aspect of their case. We’ve all had that happen to us at one time or another. Sometimes it happens when the investigator makes promises to the client and then either can’t perform, or simply can’t produce what they’ve promised.

Either way, there is a trust factor involved in private investigators and their client’s cases and many of these issues can be avoided by setting clear expectations on both sides.

At any rate, a private investigator cannot be used to intimidate or harass any other individuals and any ethical private investigator will refuse to take on such a case. It would appear on the surface of this one, that clear expectations were not defined. A restraining order is usually a last resort and this would indicate a situation that possibly spiraled out of control.

Hi Robert,
Go to a few community colleges’ website’s and see if they have their fall
catalogs online now. They should be out by now. Under “Administration of
Justice” look for some court management classes. There are also some police
report writing classes. If you write reports for your clients, these classes
are an absolute must. I learned stuff I never even thought I would need to
know. You could also look into a certificate program. For the cert you don’t
need to take all the electives – like english, math, physical ed, etc.
However, those classes do enhance whatever your major is. Good luck & have
fun.

i’ve been thinking about attending paralegal training, but don’t know if i
want to commit to a degree program that is offered a the local community
college. does anyone have any experience with shorter training courses and do
you recommend them vs the degree centered program.

Reverse Mortgage Schemes Targeting Elderly Borrowers

If your PI practice involves fraud or elder abuse investigations — than
this e-mail should be of interest to you.

I have summarized a detailed report concerning “reverse mortgage” schemes
that are occurring in many jurisdictions. With the barrage of stupid ads on
TV and radio about the “features and benefits” of reverse mortgages and all
of the scum-bags taking advantage of older home owners — I think that
understanding how this scheme/s is deployed is critical to stopping it dead
in its tracks and getting law enforcement and banking authorities involved
early. Please get this information out to anyone who might be vulnerable to
“reverse mortgage” scams or to those who might be watching over older home
owners. Don’t think this scheme can’t happen to you or anyone you might know
– it is a very slick robbery disguised as an “opportunity of a life time”.

*Details of the Schemes: *

A Georgia based company specializing in reverse mortgages utilized private
investors to purchase foreclosed property in distressed Atlanta
neighborhoods. The subjects targeted senior citizens who were renting a
residence or apartment and convinced them to purchase real estate with no
money down. The loan was based on an over-valued appraisal of the property,
which falsely represented equity in the home. The senior citizens were
promised up to 60% of their equity as a line of credit, along with cash back
at closing. The HECM proceeds were disguised as construction liens or
private loans in order to guarantee that proceeds revert back to the
mortgage company. The elderly person was instructed to change all personal
identification to reflect the address of the newly acquired property.

– The seniors attended two real estate closings; the first closing allowed
the seniors to acquire ownership of the property with a fraudulent one-year
mortgage. The seniors were required to sign a quit claim deed at the first
closing; however, the deed was not filed unless the senior borrower did not
qualify for the loan or backed out of the arrangement. In that case, the
property reverted back to the seller or investor.

– The senior typically moved into the residence after the first closing and
was asked to pay rent, even though they owned the property at this point.

– If the senior borrower qualified for the HECM loan, he or she attended
the second closing, usually after living in the property for one month.

– The second closing typically included an over-valued appraisal of the
property where the senior obtained a HECM loan for 60% of the fraudulently
appraised value.

– The proceeds of the HECM loan were usually just enough to pay off the
investors’ lien or liens on the property.

– The senior owners could not afford property taxes, insurance, and
maintenance, and were left with an over-appraised, dilapidated home in need
of major repairs.

– The properties eventually went into foreclosure resulting in large losses
to the lenders, which were passed on to HUD.

In another scheme, a subject employed at a real estate company posed as the
elderly victim’s granddaughter and interacted with bank loan officers to
secure a reverse mortgage loan. The mortgage application with the fraudulent
appraisal was submitted to the bank and subsequently rejected because the
value of the property was significantly less than the fraudulently appraised
value.

*Background – Home Equity Conversion Mortgage*

A Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) is a reverse mortgage, which allows
an individual to withdraw funds from a fixed loan providing homeowners with
cash based on the equity in their homes. The Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) developed the following requirements to qualify for
reverse mortgages:

The borrower must be 62 years or older

– The borrower must own the home or have a small mortgage balance
– The borrower must occupy the property as his or her principal residence
– The borrower must not be delinquent on any federal debt
– The borrower must participate in a consumer information session given by
an approved HECM counselor
